For over twenty-five years, David Nott, a skilled general and vascular surgeon, took unpaid leave from his NHS job to volunteer in some of the world’s most dangerous conflict zones. From cities under siege to makeshift hospitals in rebel-controlled territories, Nott carried out life-saving surgeries and field operations in conditions far removed from the resources of a modern hospital. His work spans a variety of brutal conflicts and catastrophic events, from wars to natural disasters, in regions including the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.

Through his decades of experience, Nott became one of the world’s leading trauma surgeons, known for his ability to treat catastrophic injuries in the most extreme environments. But over time, he realized that simply offering emergency care was not enough. The doctors on the ground needed to be equipped with the skills to handle the brutal injuries caused by war and disaster. In response, Nott and his wife, Elly, founded a foundation to train medical professionals in conflict zones, sharing critical knowledge in the art of life-saving surgery under fire.
